Group Activity 9 - School readiness
- Refer to your assessment of the STaR Chart and the Mankato Scale and highlight the shortcomings that such models may have for you in measuring your school's technology readiness. Base this on the understanding that you have developed throughout this module.
- Write a message to your group (using the subject heading "School_readiness") and give them your view on your assessment of these tools. Discuss the views of your group as you read messages from them. What conclusion do you reach as an individual and as a group?
- Make summative comments in your blog.
School readiness
ReplyDeleteAssessment of Star Chart - The shortcoming of this model is aligning all its indicators with the present context of our schools here in Antigua and Barbuda. Most schools are without ICT Policies and connection to the parents and community based on the inadequate ICT resources or connection. Therefore, those aspects we are unable to measure until they are set in place.
Assessment of Mankato Scale - The first three levels of the scale is the teachers'competency to use ICT for his or her own self however the last level is the teachers' ability to transfer his or her ICT knowledge, skills and attitudes to others, specifically their students. As a result, this instrument measures basic ICT levels of teachers' technology skills, but does not cater for those teachers who may have more than basic levels of technology skills, how well they are able to integrate ICT across the curriculum. E.g. At the Adoption or perhaps, Appropriation or even Invention Stage.
It is then a conclusion that any instrument of assessment of teachers' ICT development in order to measure a school's readiness for ICT is to be used target both basic computer skills and curriculum integration and not either or.
Definitely. We cannot teach ICT skills in isolation, they must be interwoven in the existing school curriculum.
